 What is Purim?
We celebrate Purim on the 14th and 15th of Adar in commemoration of the salvation of the Jews from total annihilation during the time of King Ahasuerus, who ruled the vast Persian Empire. Dignitary of the king Haman plotted to destroy all the Jews, and cast lots (pur), to find out when it is the most appropriate time. In the words of pur holiday called Purim, and all related events described in Megillat Esther (Book of Esther). In the cities, not walled, Purim is celebrated on the 14th of Adar, and in the cities, walled since the days of Joshua bin Nun, - 15 Adar. This day, 15 Adar, Shushan Purim named after the ancient capital of the Persian Empire, the city of Shushan, the Jews of which got rid of the threatening danger of death on this day.
